Structured product specialist David Schmid is to become a partner in a Zurich-based financial firm. The move follows his exit from derivatives house Leonteq's top management.

David Schmid has joined CAT Financial Group as a strategic partner and co-owner, both the company and Schmid told finews.com. He is to take a strategic role and in particular be involved in driving CAT Financial’s product range both in Switzerland and internationally.

Schmid recently left Leonteq, which he joined the year after the derivatives boutique was launched in 2008. He stayed for 12 years, including the last four as part of top management. Schmid’s expertise and network will be tapped into to expand CAT's private equity and asset management businesses.

According to its website, CAT Financial Products employs around 20 people in Zurich Bern and Lugano and plans to open a branch in Geneva this autumn. CAT Growth, a separate unit, has around another 20 investment managers and advisors.
