A year after its foundation, the Swiss Marketplace Group has a new boss, the former head of the TX Group which is involved in the joint venture.

Christoph Tonini is to join the Swiss Marketplace Group (SMG) as a designated delegate of the board of directors and will lead the group as its new CEO starting on February 1. He replaces Gilles Despas, who led the start-up phase of SMG and previously headed the online marketplace Scout24.

Born of a Merger

SMG was created in November 2021 from the merger of Scout24 Switzerland and TX Markets. The change at the top is in line with the plans of SMG's owners, which in addition to TX Group also include media group Ringier, insurer Mobiliar and financial investor General Atlantic.

The new SMG CEO is familiar with both TX Group and Ringier. In addition to his role as CEO of TX's predecessor Tamedia from 2013 to 2020, he held numerous management positions within the group. Before joining Tamedia, Tonini held various management positions at Ringier, including the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Ringier Europe.
