Anthropic Eyes Stock Market Debut
Only a few days ago, Anthropic overtook OpenAI for the first time as the world's most valuable AI start-up. According to its latest funding round, the company behind the Claude chatbot is now valued at no less than USD 965 billion.
The valuation has surged dramatically over the past year. In February 2026, Anthropic was already valued at USD 380 billion, compared with «just» USD 61,5 billion in March 2025.
The company said in a statement that the offering would depend on «market conditions and other factors». No timeline for the IPO has been announced. However, a listing is unlikely to take place before the autumn, as the SEC must first complete its review of the filing.
Rapid Growth
Besides Anthropic, two other blockbuster IPOs are on the horizon. SpaceX is scheduled to go public on 12 June, while OpenAI is also reportedly pursuing a stock market listing, although no details have yet been disclosed. Market observers believe the company could submit its own confidential filing within days.
«The floodgates of the IPO market are opening,» analyst Dan Ives wrote following the announcement. Anthropic, he argued, is taking a major step forward — and ahead of OpenAI.
Anthropic has recently stood out for its rapid growth in the enterprise segment. At the beginning of May, its annualised revenue surpassed USD 47 billion. This rapid expansion is driving substantial investments in physical infrastructure.
The company recently had to restrict access to its AI models during peak periods because its data centres were operating at full capacity. To address the issue, Anthropic has secured additional computing power from Amazon, Google and other cloud infrastructure providers.
Unusual Cooperation
Amazon recently increased its investment in Anthropic by another USD 5 billion, bringing its total commitment to USD 25 billion. In return, Anthropic agreed to purchase USD 100 billion worth of cloud services from Amazon over the next ten years.
Strategic investors in the latest funding round also include memory-chip manufacturers such as Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix, whose products remain in short supply amid booming demand for AI infrastructure.
The enormous need for computing capacity has also led Anthropic into some unexpected partnerships. Last month, the company leased the entire capacity of the «Colossus 1» data centre from SpaceX.
The agreement is particularly notable given the previously strained relationship between Elon Musk and Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, who have publicly criticised each other in the past.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei together with several former OpenAI employees.
