Migros Bank Reaffirms Sustainability and Climate Strategies
With the publication of the report, Migros Bank reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and climate action. According to a statement released on Friday, the bank’s efforts focus on reducing environmental impacts and preventing sustainability-related risks.
Climate protection remains a key priority. The bank has developed a comprehensive climate strategy with measurable targets for its most important business areas.
«By promoting the financial literacy of our clients and reducing carbon emissions in our mortgage and investment businesses, we are making an important contribution to a sustainable future,» said Chief Executive Officer Manuel Kunzelmann.
As part of the Migros Group’s net-zero target for 2050, Migros Bank has defined interim targets for its mortgage and investment activities. These are the areas where the bank can have the greatest impact on the climate. In particular, it aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from financed residential properties by 40 per cent between 2023 and 2030.
Reducing Emissions Intensity
The bank noted that the emissions intensity of the residential properties it finances had fallen by 8 percent by the end of 2025 compared with the 2023 baseline.
Greenhouse gas emissions associated with assets under management were reduced by 28 percent. In the investment business, Migros Bank has partnered with Ethos, a leading specialist in shareholder engagement. Together with other investors, the bank uses shareholder rights to encourage portfolio companies to adopt more environmentally sustainable and socially responsible business practices. This approach is also intended to reduce long-term investment risks for clients.
Strengthening Clients’ Financial Literacy
Further progress was made in 2025 through initiatives aimed at improving clients’ financial literacy. During the year, around 900 consultations on energy-efficient building renovations were conducted, significantly exceeding the target of 500 advisory sessions.
In addition, Migros Bank contributed 4,3 million francs to the Migros Pioneer Fund in 2025, supporting projects in the areas of climate and resources, technology and ethics, and social cohesion.
Preventing Sustainability Risks
The bank said it continues to advance initiatives in other key sustainability areas as part of its commitment to a sustainable future. Reducing environmental impacts and preventing sustainability risks remain at the core of these efforts.
Migros Bank intends to continue implementing its sustainability and climate strategies in the months and years ahead.
