Credit Suisse is back in the market for a new country boss in Germany. The current head of the unit is departing for a role in the real-estate business.

The move is quite a coup: Helene von Roeder, 47, head of Credit Suisse Germany, will join Vonovia as head of controlling and member of the executive committee. She will assume her duties in mid-2018, according to a statement released today.

The departure of von Roeder comes as a significant blow to Credit Suisse (CS). Before appointing the astrophysicist in 2014, the bank had been looking for almost two years to fill the vacancy.

Successful in Germany

The investment banker succeeded in accelerating the pace of business in Europe’s largest economy and had told journalists that aimed to achieve the best, winning titles.

Under her guidance, CS in Germany returned to wealth management, a business that CEO Tidjane Thiam rates highly, having once sold the assets of rich private clients to Bank Bethmann.

CS has been profitable in Germany since 2013, unlike rivals such as UBS.
