Credit Suisse has nabbed an investment banker from Barclay's to head up its dealmaking unit for Iberia.

Credit Suisse announced Ignacio «Nacho» Moreno will be joining the bank as Managing Director as head of its investment banking and capital markets (IBCM) unit for Spain and Portugal, according to a memo seen by finews.com and confirmed by a Credit Suisse spokesperson.

He joins Credit Suisse from Barclay's where he was the sole head of investment banking since 2018, holding the role of co-head of Barclay's Iberia from 2016 through 2018. He brings 25 years of investment banking experience to Credit Suisse, having started his career at Deutsche Bank in 1998. 

Moreno will report to Jens Haas and Giuseppe Monarchi who co-head EMEA coverage at Credit Suisse. Wences Bunge remains chief executive for Spain and Portugal and chairman of global real estate, according to the memo.

Investment Banking Focus

The new hire will primarily «focus will be on managing our IBCM client base and coverage team as well as growing and enhancing the existing strength of our IBCM franchise», the memo continued.

Moreno will be joining a strong team in Spain which includes Israel Fernandez del Sol who joined in 2021 as Co-Head of EMEA FIG, and Rafael Abati head of M&A for Energy and Infrastructure, EMEA, and Head of M&A for Iberia, together with very relevant senior product partners also based there. 

Credit Suisse established Madrid as a post-Brexit location and expanded its presence significantly there with nearly 500 employees, as «Financial News» reported last week.
