The Genevan wealth manager is poaching from Schroders for the Spanish market, finews.com has learned.

Mirabaud is hiring Fernando Garro Lopez-Chicheri as market head for Spain, a person familiar with his hire told finews.com. A spokeswoman for the Swiss private bank confirmed Garro's hire, effective this month. He will be based in Geneva.

The 221-year-old wealth manager is beefing up its expertise in the Spanish market, where Francisco Gomez-Trenor is based in Madrid. Gomez-Trenor will report to Garro, Mirabaud said. Garro in turn will report directly to Nicolas Mirabaud, who is one of four managing partners of the bank.

Copious Hiring Plans

Garro's hire fills a hole left when long-standing Mirabaud partner Antonio Palma departed two years ago. Palma, a Spanish-Swiss dual citizen, was instrumental in Mirabaud's establishing its business in Spain.

Mirabaud has hired copiously recently, including at its U.K. wealth arm and in a fledgling corporate finance unit. The bank aims to add as many as 20 private bankers annually, senior partner Yves Mirabaud told finews.com recently.
