New Cat Bond boutique launches in Zurich

The newly founded Atmos Capital Partners wants to enter the business of alternative investments and, specifically, cat bonds. Atmos was founded by Matt Fischer (who will serve as Chief Executive Officer), Etienne Schwartz (Chief Investment Officer) and Martin Sennrich (General Counsel).

Leadership trio held senior roles at Twelve Securis

All three previously worked for Twelve Securis. Fischer most recently served as Partner and Chief Strategy Officer at the provider specializing in securitized insurance risks (Insurance-Linked Securities, ILS, which also include cat bonds), Schwartz was Partner and CIO Liquid Strategies, and Sennrich was Head of Legal. Sennrich's previous professional positions also included Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan (Switzerland), Swiss Life Asset Managers and Finma.

The broader team brings experience in portfolio management, risk management, law and compliance, fund governance and data analysis, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Atmos will be backed by private investors with experience in asset management, insurance, financial markets and consulting.

The new company, based in Zurich, aims to launch its first offering in the liquid alternatives segment before the end of the year.

Risk selection and affiliated analytics firm

According to the statement, the planned investment approach will focus on risk selection, portfolio construction and the management of investment capacity. Research and modeling will be supported by Nilo Analytics, an affiliated analytics firm.

CEO Fischer said: "We see an opportunity to build a specialized alternative investment firm with cat bonds at its core. Building on that, we want to develop complementary investment strategies and combinations over time. Our long-standing working relationships provide a strong foundation for this."

Zurich seems to be a good place for the cat bond scene. Over the past decades, it has developed into one of the most important locations for the industry.
