Her nomination at Credit Suisse was overshadowed by the surprise replacement of long-time Chairman Urs Rohner, but Blythe Masters represents genuine renewal and technology know-how at the Swiss lender.
The British banker, who spent 27 years at J.P. Morgan including as finance chief of its investment bank, credit chief, and head of commodities, is credited with developing the synthetic securitization instruments that later pioneered modern credit default swaps, or CDSs. Masters headed for the world of blockchain and digital assets five years ago and added a prestigious mandate to advise Google on its cloud last month.
